Most people visiting Orlando are coming to visit the theme parks. It is estimated there are over 55 million visitors each year who visit Central Florida and most of them spend some or all of their vacation either at Walt Disney World, SeaWorld or Universal Studios theme parks. There are seven big theme parks and numerous water parks in the area.
When people look to Orlando, they initially think of Disney World for back in the early 1970’s this region was nothing but orange groves. Today because of the popularity of the attractions, it is the second fastest big city in the United States.
But Disney World is not located in Orlando. No, actually Disney and its neighbor theme parks….SeaWorld and Universal Studios are located to the south of the city.
Disney World could actually be a city unto itself for it is home to 58,000 workers and encompasses some 30,500 acres or 47 square miles.
Two cities actually claim parts of the “magic”. Lake Buena Vista has the northern portion of the park and to the south and east of the park, Kissimmee claims the larger portion.
Most all of the tourist attractions….theme parks, exhibits, as well as shows are located around Walt Disney World. Orlando is actually some 45 minute drive from the theme parks and because of it’s out of the way location does not house much in the way of attractions. If you are coming to Orlando we suggest you look for Disney World Good Neighbor hotels or Lake Buena Vista hotels.
